RaffleStudio – Frequently Asked Questions

General information about free online raffles in Alberta and how RaffleStudio supports
eligible organizations.

Explains what RaffleStudio does, why free raffles exist, and how access to raffle software is provided.

What is RaffleStudio?

RaffleStudio is an educational and facilitation platform created to help small charitable organizations explore online raffles responsibly. RaffleStudio does not operate raffles or provide raffle software. Instead, it facilitates access to licensed raffle software through a partnership with Tap 50:50.

What is free raffle software, and how does it work?

RaffleStudio does not supply raffle technology directly. Through its relationship with Tap 50:50, eligible RaffleStudio members can access the same online raffle software used for paid raffles, without platform fees. This is provided as a self-serve experience without access to dedicated raffle consultants.

Are free online raffles legitimate?

Yes, when properly licensed and operated. RaffleStudio is not a registered raffle supplier and does not issue licenses. The raffle software is provided by Tap 50:50, a registered raffle technology supplier, and licensing remains the responsibility of the charitable organization.

Why does RaffleStudio facilitate free raffles?

RaffleStudio’s mandate is to reduce cost and complexity for small charities entering charitable gaming. Free access allows organizations to fundraise compliantly before scaling.

Why would a professional raffle platform offer free raffles?

Tap 50:50 supports the free program to help charities grow responsibly. Organizations that later exceed free thresholds may choose paid services, but there is no obligation to do so.

Geography, Eligibility & Limits

Clarifies where the free program operates and the boundaries that apply.

Why are free raffles currently only available in Alberta?

RaffleStudio is launching gradually. Alberta was selected for initial rollout because raffles under $20,000 Total Ticket Value (TTV) are generally easier to license. This allows for beta testing, controlled growth, and responsible support before expanding to other provinces.

Will RaffleStudio expand to other provinces?

Yes. Expansion is planned, but timing depends on regulatory differences, demand, and operational readiness.

Can we run a free raffle with a TTV over $20,000?

No. The free program is limited to raffles with a TTV of $20,000 or less.

Is it still considered free if there is a $99 fee?

Yes. The $99 fee covers account setup and annual membership. Members may run unlimited free raffles provided they meet all program criteria.

Do charities keep 100% of ticket sales?

Yes. Charities receive all ticket proceeds, minus standard payment processing fees.
